Silent Hill died because Silent Hill was always true horror, but they just couldn't keep up with the trends. Team Silent made that series. I'm sure they didn't want to leave it alone. Konami though probably felt threatened with the direction Capcom went in, and couldn't keep up. Since Konami ain't Capcom, they fired them and got US marketers to screw up the series. So, no. I hate Konami for that. If the series was gonna end, it should have ended with 4: The Room. What we've had since is mostly semi-decent pale imitations that just tries to copy stuff from Silent Hill 2 especially. It's not the same. And I've yet to complete Downpour. I've been trying to give it a chance, but the whole game is just boring.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I just don't seem to get immersed the same way in the SH games that came post-Room. Like in Origins, for example, I could really feel I was playing a video game. The same goes for Homecoming and SHSM, there's no real lore or underlying horror. The horror is just thrown right in your face and it's not scary or immersive. The stories are boring and offers nothing unique in terms of experience. Whenever I play Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 or 4, I always feel like I'm in inside another reality - especially 2 and 4. The worldbuilding is just so much more well-done and that's part of the reason why its so immersive.
