When you first walk around in the town, in the early beginning of the game. just after obtaining the radio and the first weapon from the first monster...

i stumbled into some store like place, and its allmost an completely empty dark room.
exept it has something written on the window (inside the store)

is says ''there was a hole here, it's gone now''

I think it means that James life was void and without purpose when Mary died but when he recieved her letter it gave him hope that he might be reunited with his wife again. Thus the 'there was a hole here but it's gone now.' makes sense. Or it be when...
When he met Maria, an almost exact clone of his wife in Rosewater Park.
Take your pick.

That's because there was a hole there, but like Baldwin wrote, there wasn't anymore. Please get back there after you've gone to the hospital for one more message to James.

That 'response' could be considered spam. I know, I know. I don't want to be a twat about that but if you must make a response, please try to put words in it, okay?

You can apply whatever theory or idea you like to the line in Neely's Bar (Bar Neely's?) The hole being James' way out of the nightmare he's lead himself into, holes in his mind, yadda yadda...

i personally thought that the "there was a hole here" comment was written by some other person going through their own personal hell in silent hill. perhaps, to the person who wrote it, the wall of the bar had a sort of SH4-esque portal.

I think F was write in saying it was Ernest Baldwin... Maybe or maybe not, but he was the one who wrote that letter with the wrench...

It all points to being Ernest who wrote it... visit the same place in "dark" silent hill and you get the idea...

^It was definently him.

Arthemesic: The first time when you´re at Silent Hill, you go to that trailer, read the map, then go to Neely´s Bar. There you´ll find the message: "There was a hole here, it´s gone now".

Then, after you complete the Brookhaven hospital (in the dark SH) go back to the Neely´s Bar, there you´ll find the rest of the message.

Hope I´ve helped!!

The "HOLE" message is later replaced by the malevolent "James you should just DIE" message, which is definitely written by the same person who wrote James the letters leading up to the wrench. Depending on who you believe to be the writer of that message, be it Earnest Baldwin, James himself, or other, that's who wrote it.

But the Ernest Baldwin theory only works if you have played"Born from a wish" game,If not them it would seem to be mary's doing, but then again the break in that theiry is the message,"If you really want to see mary, james, you should just die.But you are going to a different place,James" or something to that effect. That seems to indicated the hatred the Laura has towrads James.
Anyone else confused with what I just wrote or is it just me?

I was thiniking it was someone's own descent into Silent Hill as they witnessed the change from the normal realm to the alternate world.

I actually have my own lil' theory as to who wrote the messages, but I'll post it another time.

The theory still works even if you haven't played the scenario, because the scenario a) exists and cannot be disregarded as part of the Silent Hill 2 storyline and b) James said it himself. A dead person can't write a letter, much less paint words on a wall.

Also, Laura can't reach up that high.

If you want to get technical, it's Joseph Barkin. However: That aspect of the story was removed entirely, so I opt for my own belief in it being Ernest Baldwin.

But then all the dummies would know about their subpar intellect and would be very distraught. Poor souls.
