Post subject: Scary or Not? |
|
|
|
Was this film scary for you all or not?
I'm with most of the posters I only managed to jump once and that was early on. I did cuss at a couple of the appearences like: "Oh (Obscentiy)! Their screwed now!" Particularly in regards to the appearence of PH and the Janitor.

Silent Hill has never really been a scary game much the same way Resident Evil was scary. Silent Hill has created an uneasy atmosphere which makes one feel frightened on an almost constant basis because of its phycologically disturbing imagery. I felt that the film caputred it as well as it could have. Do I think it did the game justice as far as atmosphere? Yes. Was it scary? At times, sort of. I felt more uneasy than terror. The janitor was just fucked up.. really fucked up and the screams of both he and the children are still stuck in my mind.

IMO, I wouldn't consider Resident Evil scary, but fun. It's just fun blastin' zombies cause you got a whole arsenal of weapons, but Silent Hill is scary, like bad nightmare/dream thingy scary where your're surrounded by monster and you try to fight back but it feels like your arms are weak as hell, then you wake up screaming and cover in sweat. Ever had one of those? Yeah...It's kinda like that. That's Silent Hill scary!

Not really scary...but I would say Creepy and Disturbing...which is better than being scared, it brings more emoiton into play, and thats what made this film so much better!

I meant the usual boo scares like the dogs bursting through the windows or the zombie arms breaking through the windows.

Well, before I sucked up courage to play the games myself, I watched my friend play Silent Hill 2. And at times it was creepy. But it's a completely different experience when you play by yourself. The alternate hospital in Silent Hill 2 still scares me.

It made me edgy and uncomfortable at times. I like movies that have some emotional effect on me besides the easily envoked laughter.

That's the problem. The scariness in Silent Hill comes from exploration by yourself. You control the character, thus you are connected the character to yourself more. In the threatre, you're force-fed to go through places and not to mention I watched Silent Hill movie tonight in a threatre that was FULL. That took away alot of scariness factor, imo. Maybe if you get to sit in a threatre alone, it might be a lot scarier.

Yeah I agree. A good audience is needed. When I went, I had to tolerate some assholes in the back laughing and talking througout the whole fuckin movie! I'm suprised I didn't beat the shit out of them.

I gotta admit, I wasn't all too scared during the movie. The game on the other hand, I remember my hands shaking during my first playthrough of SH 2 (the interactive thing adds another element)

The movie itself was not "scary" but it did freak me the hell out (the grey children T.T)

I didn't find it scary, but disturbing. My heart was racing during the scene with the Gray Children.

Nah I didnt think it was scary.
The Grey Children/Mumbler things were distubring (I loved their facial expressions and their sound) but as a SH fan I was just watching with glee as monsters ensued.

Not even remotely scary... maybe I'm just desensitized - but the grey children / mumblers I thought was just silly...
The nurses was poorly done (in fact when they first started to move I thought they were going to start dancing), the janitor was possibly the best monster - but again not really scary. Pyramid Head was so underused.... v dissapointed.

I had the perfect viewing experience, crowd-wise. About 13 people in my theater... enough to not feel alone, but not enough to feel crowded or lose the ability to sink into the film. I noticed that my shoulder muscles were all bunched up through the whole movie. Periodically, I'd realize that and relax, but it never lasted long. And that's the precise effect the game has on me. I'll suddenly realize my fingers are cramping from holding the controller so hard, but it's a minute before I'm right back to a death grip.
