 Post subject: Sequel petition

I created this petition to send to Gans requesting that he return for a sequel. Please sign it if you want a sequel or if you think Gans did a nice job with this movie. Personally, I am craving for one.

I second that. We should make a petition that Gans and Avary NEVER, NEVER put their hands on the project again! One spoiled part is enough.

Ugh...

Know what? As long as it isn't THIS movie, and they follow the basic plot, I'm in. Seriously...Unless it's based on Silent Hill 3, let's have a male protagonist...please?

The mother thing is just SOOOOOOO over played, it hurts.

But the movie lost that unique Silent Hill atmosphere -- it wasn't scary at all, I dunno why, and there's a lot of people in thw town, you know. In the games you always got that lonely feeling because it's five or six people in all the town. If you watched David Fincher's movies -- you'll get what I'm talking about, you know Gans was constantly talking about the digital camera and how he was impressed by Michael Mann's Collateral night scenes. But in Silent Hill they let it go... I dunno how to explain it, the true fans will understand -- the atmosphere itself, cold colors, constant suspense -- they've all gone. I was very upset. Maybe as an action movie it's alright, but it's not a horror film...

"the true fans will understand."

Whose opinion of "true fan" are we talking about here? You don't have to be a "true fan" to see the flaws of the film, just the same as it does not mean you aren't a "true fan" if you enjoyed the film. I hope that wasn't what you were implying.

Hey, my brother has seen every horror movie out there. He can sit through the scariest of the scary and just shrug it off. However, after we watched the movie he said "That was the only movie that creeped me out."

It might be that the atmosphere isn't there for you because you were either expecting too much or knew what to expect, having played the games.

Cool, I'm not the only one who thought "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" was a scarier movie than this. It just seemed like they TRIED to be creepy. It...really wasn't that scary. To truly judge the movie, you have to not be bias, because you love the game. I am a "real fan" of the game, but the movie gave me heartburn.

I don't even know what to expect for the sequal. Maybe a "straight to DVD" type of thing everyone will still say was good. Oh well...

Maybe if David Fincher would do a sequel it would be okay, and of course another scriptwriter... But we all know it's highly unlikely... I wish!

I agree that the whole "mother" thing is getting old.. there needs to be a male protagonist.

Personally, I'd just like to play quality new games crafted by Team Silent.
No more movie stuff.

Gotta agree.

I haven't been by since the movie came out, but I did see it, twice even. I was willing to forgive the shoddy dialogue and plot contrivances in the first half - it's in the nature of the series to be awkwardly written and weird after all. The second half led me to conclude that no movie involving the word "witch" should be made ever, ever again and that Roger Avary belongs in a hole underground.

I'll still end up seeing the sequel if it gets made, but we need new games already!

I agree, Tom. I'd like to play a new game, but I don't mind a new movie, as long as it doesn't fall on the sequel curse. The movie was pretty nice. I liked it, and am buying the dvd. I mostly liked it for the atmosphere of the first half and the imagery, though.

I don't think anyone but Team Silent could make the movie, and even they might go the Advent Children route (though I did like that movie. There just wasn't much of a coherent plot for it). Anything to make it marketable. And petitions don't do much, do they? I dunno.

If I had to give the sequel to anyone other than Gans, the only obvious choice would be Mr Lynch. <3333333333 To that I would say "Screw Gans!" :P
