Re: Does Ascension Pose a Risk to the Future of the Series?

Since most of us probably thought this series was moribund about a year ago, I think the risk to the future of the series is behind us at this point.

Re: Meaning behind Save system?

Sure, but the longer letter wouldn't require nine literal pieces of paper, either. The red square feels like more of an abstract symbol of the letter, rather than a direct, physical manifestation. The letter, itself, is massively important. It is the purported catalyst of the entire adventure, it (v...

Re: Meaning behind Save system?

What if the red square is the letter ? And, you have nine of them at the end, because that's the last chance to save the game before we see and hear the full letter, in its entirety? What if the full letter is a little more than 8.5 times as long (77 lines) as the abridged and possibly fake version ...

Re: A map and date are depicted in the TOWNFALL trailer

Mine of SH2 was also saved on a floppy, and a large amount of it was written on an ancient Windows 95 Thinkpad with a monochrome display (hence the need for the floppy).

Re: A map and date are depicted in the TOWNFALL trailer

Maybe a lil more likely they'd be using that particular piece of tech in 1998, since my long and hard minutes of research lead me to believe that it didn't exist quite yet in '88. I never really thought of handheld TVs as ever being very popular or widespread. It's the kind of idea that was was poss...

Re: A map and date are depicted in the TOWNFALL trailer

I love these challenges, so here's my take. First, I couldn't find a TV that looked exactly like this, but I did find one that is quite visually similar: the Sony Watchman FDL-310 https://i.imgur.com/CIAFzo0.png The user manual was printed in 1989, according to the user manual I found on Sony's webs...

Re: IGN readers voted Silent Hill 2 as the best horror game of all time

In that case they would need to make the environments really interesting, not just random obscure references or subtles hints of the lore like we had before so modern players won't get bored. Also, the time that we spend at the streets would need to be shorter, I still remember how everybody compla...

Re: Joseph Schreiber really was losing his mind (E3 Trailer stuff)

I've said for years that Silent Hill 4 would have been a much better game if Joseph was the character and focus of the story, rather than some dude who moves into his place after he dies and reads Joseph's notes telling us about the more interesting adventures he got to have.

Re: PSP or PS2?

Originally, I played the PS2 version, paid full price for it and everything, and I thought it was literally unplayable because it was so dark that indoors areas were basically too dark to effectively navigate no matter what I did to my display to try to mitigate the effect. On the PSP, however, it w...

Re: IGN readers voted Silent Hill 2 as the best horror game of all time

I find myself wondering, if Silent Hill 2 had been made (not remade ) in 2023, would there even be combat with monsters at all? Because, honestly, those have always felt, to me, like gameplay elements included, in large part, because you didn't not include them in a turn-of-the-century horror videog...

Re: And... Predictably, people are already complaining.

Present company excepted, Silent Hill fans are really insufferable and impossible to please. It does make me chuckle watching these people act like they're the ones who spent 20 years examining and critiquing this game on the atomic level, just because they've watched YouTube analyses derived from t...

Re: Was Eddie breaking the fourth wall

It's an interesting take. However, the camera shifts to first-person during Angela's fiery staircase scene, as well. Are we meant to also assume she's asking if we can save her? Love her? Take care of her? Heal all her pain? That's what I thought. Perhaps she isn't breaking the fourth wall in the t...

fwiw, I possess the ability to cross my eyes at will. I learned the trick so I could view stereograms, but it also makes those "find the differences" puzzles absolutely trivial and I can solve them in seconds. Even tiny differences in similar images stand out very starkly, because the simi...

Re: Silent Hill 2 Timeline

So I went to the Dallas Cowboys subreddit awhile ago and asked for their help in figuring it out. It turns out, it's not either of the players I believed it was. I'll just repost the answer I got: That looks like Emmitt Smith in Super Bowl 28, Irvin did not wear forearm/elbow pads (just gloves and d...

tbh this was all a little bit more fun before people started bothering members of the creative staff, because it has killed some interesting debates. Figuring this out ourselves, or even creating little headcanons, was such a good time.

Perhaps there are nine save points because Dante, sans Virgil, has finally arrived at Cocytus, "a frozen lake in which are punished those who betrayed people with whom they had a special bond of trust".

But what does it even mean, why is it there? What's the deep dive on this very prominent and evocative visual symbol? I don't believe, for a moment, it's any accident that a lot of players assume the mouth comes from Lisa. Some of you may have roughly the same FMV frame in your head as you read this...

Re: Smiling Picture Person

I'm 99.9 pct. sure that the photo of Marilyn Monroe is the basis for the face seen in the game, which may be a doctored version of the original photo, or a recreation made by one of the artists. That would be an obvious explanation for the differences, which in mind are of small consequence. The sha...

Re: The voice acting from the perspective of a non-American?

I liked it much less once it was redone by professional actors. I was not one of the reflexive haters, but I tried playing SH2 with the new voices and it felt entirely wrong.
