Re: The voice acting from the perspective of a non-American?

I liked it much less once it was redone by professional actors. I was not one of the reflexive haters, but I tried playing SH2 with the new voices and it felt entirely wrong.

Re: Your favorite ending and why.

It has vexed me for a long time why Rebirth can't be achieved until getting one of the other endings. It's not a joke or bonus ending, it is plot-significant and is the only ending in which James appears to get what he initially claimed to want. I can see some gameplay-related justifications for thi...

Re: Where did mary die? (spoilers in thread, not title)

Perhaps the truth is halfway in between. Maybe, James really did kill Mary at home, and when we see it, the setting has the same abandoned and neglected look as everything in town, because James is truly in the grasp of the town from the moment he decides to do the deed (and maybe he had already dec...

Re: Silent Hill 2 Timeline

There's a (mostly) hidden lot in South Vale which has a few dozen copies of the Midwich school bus parked in it. https://i.imgur.com/pV9rWCP.png I believe that whoever made and placed the art assets in this game, maybe wasn't thinking so deeply as establishing a timeframe for when the game takes pla...

Re: Silent Hill 2 Timeline

There are two calendars in the game, one of which depicts a November which coincides with November 1984, the other which depicts a May which coincides with 1994. Though, it's worth noting that these two calendars could also plausibly depict Nov. 1973 and May, 1983. But, James still wouldn't have had...

Re: Silent Hill 2 Timeline

Well, I'll tell you what, nobody was recording home movies on VHS in the late 1970s, since the first camcorder didn't debut until 1983.

your move, ito-san.

Re: In your opinion, is this game really part of the 1/3 can

It is related to the first and third games, but only indirectly, and the connections are not really all that meaningful. You have Frank Sunderland and Walter Sullivan as the two visible ties to Silent Hill 4, which itself only has thin connections to the Alessa story, and those two characters are in...

Re: Henry's personality

For the last five days, he has not left his apartment. It's not because he wants to, but because he can't. It might as well be chained shut. When people knock, he does not answer. He's just a weirdo nobody knows very well anyway. Sitting alone in his apartment, he tries to break through this barrier...

Re: Your favorite ending and why.

Because I now understand that all four endings are actually very brilliant and they all work together in a million different ways to bring meaning and understanding to so much of what happens in the game. To pick one and say "this is the best" is fight I used to pick, but none of them make...

With a few years' distance put between me and the issue, I find it kind of weird now that I ever had a preference.

Re: I chose P.T. as my PS4 Game of the Year!

This is an odd fusion of interests, to say the very least.

In an unrelated thread, I might be interested in an open discussion and/or debate of libertarian philosophy. I understand it a lot better now than I used to.

A much more depressing interpretation of the endings

I've thought about the Leave and Maria endings in a way I'd never done before, and it makes me interpret the whole character of James Sunderland in a slightly different way. I think we may have all gotten it wrong about what these two endings say about his personality and motives in this story. To p...

Re: This or Sh4: The Room

It's a tough choice. On the one hand, you have a game which completely fails at telling what would have been a pretty good story, that has bad controls, a bad combat system that you're constantly forced to endure, artificial inventory limits and a single save point that serve only to force a lot of ...

Re: Why Good+ Ending is My Canon Ending (spoilers)

I'm sorry that I can't agree with this. Considering his relationship to the series, that he is the original writer of the game and the one who Owaku listened to when considering Cybil's fate in the 3rd game, I think his opinion should be strongly valued. And personally, I don't think he owes us any...

Re: Why Good+ Ending is My Canon Ending (spoilers)

Right, but you're only saying that because you'd basically like to ignore Toyama's quote. I don't agree with that attitude, so that's where our disagreement lies. So let's talk about that. It's not that I wish to ignore it, it's just that, considering his relationship to the series, and all of the ...

Re: Why Good+ Ending is My Canon Ending (spoilers)

No one's arguing against that. It's just that quality and canon are two separate issues. And also I think that when it's done for the purposes of a game mechanic, consistency in that particular case becomes a lot less important. After all, we have to allow games a little leeway in order for them to...
