Re: Gillespie House
I'm definitely not put off by oversights, nor by taking an opportunity to run a comb through things upon revisiting them. Oftentimes, especially back in the late '90s when the first game was built, these kinds of disconnects are the result of mismatched production schedules without budget (or good r...

Re: SH1 to (Possibly) Become Unavailable Digitally Forever Soon
Wow, I'm genuinely surprised. The value of a back catalog is fleeting and imprecise, and has a more direct relationship with brand affinity than with revenue figures. Kudos to whoever convinced Sony execs that this was ultimately about trust.

Re: Who else was disappointed by Homecoming?
It had pockets of sublime atmosphere when its idiosyncratic rendering effects meld with its sound design. Flooded Shepherd basement, junkyard, and living room chat with catatonic mother are standouts. I enjoy these moments enough to stomach its clunky gameplay.

Re: A black sheep in the series, yet it still gives me the creep
I really couldn’t get on with this game back when I played and finished it for the only time I did. But I’ve been through a lot since then, and my tastes have evolved. Think I’ll give it another chance when I’m back home with access to my PS2 in October.

Re: Gillespie House
Is the state of the house depicted as someone remembered (or even dreamed) it, rather than what it actually was?

Re: Sam Barlow Pitching Shattered Memories Follow-Up
I remember Origins origins for its incredibly awkward violence. I appreciate Shattered Memories for its lack of explicit violence. Next?
I wonder what sort of Silent Hill game might hinge on the dynamic of regrettable violence.

Re: PS2? PSP?
PS2 Travis looks a bit like Frankestein's monster for me... I like his PSP appearance better... Lisa also is hideous in PS2 Curious whether this is a case of the lower-resolution screen being more kind to the source assets, or if there’s actual content disparity between the two platforms. I’ve only...

Wow, major credit for finally tracking this down. I’d always been dreadfully curious what inspired that particular part of the graffiti!

Re: Why wasn't Silent Hill 3 released on Xbox?
Wish it weren’t the case, but quite likely this was simply a matter of the Xbox install base size relative to the PS2 install base at the time. SH2: Restless Dreams was a commendable foray, but sales numbers didn’t inspire further support for the platform.

Re: Masahiro Ito shares some original SH1 backgrounds
Artifacts of a bygone era, but I genuinely love that short-lived artistic approach of painting in faux specular highlights and approximated normal maps into simple textures. Just enough detail to invite your eyes into backfilling detail that was never truly there.

Re: Gillespie House
I’ve always been curious why the Gillespie home would have been located in something of a partially flooded basin, to the point that a power pole lay uprooted and diagonal in the foreground of the video.

Very sad, all the time as was thinking that Mary somehow could be alive. But maybe there left one chance - rebirth ending. I wonder whats happen after all. If Mary was resurrected, what happen next, maybe this was a happy anding? I've always been fascinated by this take on a Rebirth ending. http://...

Re: I'm not at all interested in playing this game.
Some of the best reasons to experience this game are the things you'll never read about. The depth of a hallway and all the unseen things it might contain, the sound of a whimper just out of sight.

Re: Is silent hill 3 the worst game in the series?
Far from the worst. Personally, the game does a better job of stitching its plot to the events of the first game than it needed to, but I don't buy Vincent and Douglas as characters whenever they're on screen. SH3 is a mix of some of the best and worst the series has to offer, and it averages out to...

Re: Kojima: "Silent Hill S could be open world"
I'd be happy with a semi-open format, with a mix of exploration in a hub and linear spokes.
I'm not opposed to a fully open approach on principle, and it would be nice to see Silent Hill done well in a new format.

Pretty impressive parity here. I've only minor issues with the way UE handles light sources over distance.

I've always enjoyed Knickknack's take on this ending. It's been around forever, but if you're new to this community, there's a good chance you've missed it.

Great find, Adversary. I'm certain I'd scene that structure in an art history book back in 2002, but I never made the connection myself. Cuttin' crosses.

Re: TGS news/info
What could he mean by "worldwide collaboration through streaming/sharing?" I'm trying to stay positive, but any way I can slice it, that really kills the scare factor for me. :| Yeah, no reason to worry about the game experience itself just yet. He just means that it was their intention t...
