Wasn't it stated by Team Silent/Konami, or some other official source, that Silent Hill 2 took place 7 years After SH1? If thats the case, then SH2 should take place sometime in the late 80s, early 90s, no? :?:

Seems like the date that Silent Hill 2 happens on has been revealed.

Not necessarily.

The receipt could also be for 9 May, 1993, and not September 5th, 1993.

The diary on Brookhaven Hospital's rooftop — which I believe to be Mary's — begins on 9 May.

Agreed.

Bit of a late response, but I don't think that receipt says 1993. That last "9" doesn't look at all like any of the other 9s on the receipt. I firmly believe it says 1983 like many of the other dates in the remake. Of course, I also don't believe it has any bearing on when the game actually takes place. I've also seen images of an in-game newspaper dated from 1991 floating around.

I have seen a picture of a phone book in the remake that has 1992 as a date.

Also a television manufactured in 1989.

There are many dates in SILENT HILL 2: REMAKE. In the process of compiling them all — because I also found another calendar in Lakeview Hotel that coincides with both April 1983 and April 1994, including the circle date of Friday the 22nd (Passover).

The calendar beneath it is for January, which also corresponds to those same years.

This whole business of the remake seemingly lending more credence to the loop theory makes me wonder if the inconsistent dates are part of luring us down that rabbit hole.

I don't know if it's just me but, under the correct circumstances, visa vie, certain endings, I never was confused that James would have to relive his time in Silent Hill depending on his ultimate decision.

It is heavily implied in the Maria ending that James will have to watch Maria die the same way Mary did and thus begin his journey again.....

In Rebirth James rejects his initial delusion and slides even further into a darker delusion. Reviving Mary using the ritual will almost most certainly end in her demise again and just like in the Maria ending, he'll have to watch Mary die again and start his journey all over again.....

This is something that should not be looked at as a theory, in these 2 examples it is HEAVILY implied that James has not accepted reality and the towns power will ensure that the cycle will continue.

This is not a time loop. In a time loop, everything is gets a hard reset. The residual effects that we see and notes that we read of other versions of James suggest that the Otherworld works in the same way Gehinnom works in Judaism. The Jewish concept of punishment after death appears to be similar to the non-Jewish concept of purgatory. The temporary punishment until the sins that a person has committed are atoned for.

I mean, isn’t that what James’ metaphysical journey is all about?
