At one time, I thought that Angela did not actually exist, but was instead a manifestation of part of James's personality. I've since altered my view of her (mostly because of this site and other materials I've looked at), but I still think she represents a part of James. I feel her victimization parallels the victimization that James felt due to Mary's illness. I also feel that Eddie represents James's angry/insane side—the side that led him to kill Mary.

As for the knife, I don't believe it has any use throughout the game except that it alters the endings depending on if and how often you examine it (others will be able to give you some definites here).

She's there not only as a link to one of SH2's endings (In Water), like all the secondary characters of SH2 do, she is also there to establish that James is not a unique case. The town calls many guilty souls to the town to be punished.

Angela, Eddie, and James were not the first, and they're certainly not the last.

Well I will then! Angela was so great! I wish they had made a game for her and her story! That would have kicked ass. Favorite character in SH2...

By observing the knife you have more chance to trigger the bad ending (Water).

The knife connotes the weapon Angela used when she killed her father.

James could have saved her He should have just said ok before she left and someone posted that they should have made a game just about her. This would be ggreat and all but we would know where she dies and kind of her purpose as well dont you think so ?

No proof she dies.

Silent Hill 2 is about finding your own fate, not playing hero to a dirty runaway.

I guess but they really did hint towards it dont you think

What's with people saying James could have saved Angela all of a sudden...? She didn't WANT to be saved, and she even says it herself. She's still stuck in the same loop inside her mind, that she deserved what happened to her, and until she overcomes her guilt and what happened to her she can't move on.

Although I don't know which is worse. Angela dying or wandering in the Otherside, unable to move on.

What?

No, but she did have a tombstone in the Labyrinth. I feel that everyone who had a tombstone there died (yes, even James).

The Catacombs don't have anything to do with the characters' death: it's there to show that each of them had gone through the Abyss and jumped through their own grave.

Interesting.

Does anyone know off the top of their head if they get her knife before they see PH's big knife?

You get Angela's knife after your first encounter with PH.

However, PH's knife and Angela's knife couldn't be more different. Angela's knife is a generic carving knife. PH's is certainly not.

PH's Great Knife is a phallic symbol, perfectly at home with the rest of James' repressed sexual images/symbols throughout his Silent Hill. Angela's knife comes into James' possession just by chance, to keep Angela from killing herself.

Uhh yeah he could have if he had accepted to take care of her then she wouldnt have killed herself

No, there was nothing James could do. Angela was already far too broken to be saved by the time James encountered her. If he had accepted to take care of her (which wasn't his responsibility anyway), she would have only rejected his offer (she wants her mother, not James) and possibly would have tried to kill him.

After you meet Angela you use the 3 coins to get the key, which opens a door to get the apartment stairway, then through that door is where you meet PH with the great knife.
