Hate to be the bearer of bad news but his wording here is actually very misleading in an unfortunate way.

He clarifies here
https://twitter.com/mrsambarlow/status/ ... 7648582664
and here
https://twitter.com/mrsambarlow/status/ ... 6641305602
that he isn't actually pitching a Silent Hill game to Konami.

I think the phrase he should have used was "spiritual successor", not "follow-up", because now everywhere is reporting that he's pitching an actual sequel to Shattered Memories to Konami and getting excited.

Honestly, I'd love it. Shattered Memories has a great narrative and it uses the gameplay to tell its story very well. If they can make a better, scarier gameplay, I would love it. Maybe learn from Alien: Isolation and even indie games like Cry of Fear, that you can balance combat with horror and still be very effective.

Given that Her Story and Telling Lies are what they are, I wouldn't expect any future Sam Barlow games to lean heavier on combat than Shattered Memories did. And personally, I think that's fine. I'm always down for video games to try different things than what's come before.

I agree with Nanaya. To me, Sam Barlow is what David Cage aspires to actually be but doesn't quite get to.

Any non-combat game is fine with me. There's enough fighting in the world. . . .

I remember Origins origins for its incredibly awkward violence. I appreciate Shattered Memories for its lack of explicit violence. Next?

I wonder what sort of Silent Hill game might hinge on the dynamic of regrettable violence.

Meh, I dunno. I didn’t think SHSM was that good to begin with; besides there’s plenty of developers nowadays doing justice to the genre such as Supermassive Games who’s behind Until Dawn and Man of Medan.

Shattered Memories was better than Man of Medan and Little Hope.

Agreed, but I thought Man of Medan had some really cool ideas. Not as good as Until Dawn, but pretty enjoyable, esp in co-op. :)

I found MoM really dull. It was a struggle to get through.

Little Hope was better to me, but still not at the highs of Until Dawn.

I'm sure you already know this, but for the uninitiated – Little Hope was supposedly the pitch to Konami for a new Silent Hill game. If true, I'm not sorry Konami passed on it... 💩

*bump*

Anyone else starting to wonder if this is actually SH-related given the recent legit leaks?
