That was incredibly clunky. Like, what was she getting at there?

After having not played either since they were released, and relying solely on playthroughs, I think I now prefer HOMECOMING over DOWNPOUR, though that's primarily because I delved into the chronology of DOWNPOUR and got nowhere with it. And I'm not sure why they put Silent Hill in the same zip code as parts of southern Portland, Maine/Cape Elizabeth. It doesn't make sense that Harry would move to hide from the Order in a city that's only a few miles away. Silent Hill should be in the more northern region.

I'm also still irritated at the final levels of DOWNPOUR and how many times I died just trying to get to the final boss. Only to find the final boss be easily the worst in the series.

My main complaint at the time of HOMECOMING was the combat. I don't care about quick moves and action. Just let me play the game for the story, please.
Haha, yeah even the letsplayer (mapocolops) just busted out laughing.

I will admit that Downpour is a slightly better game than I gave it credit for and I can see why one might enjoy it. After seeing the same letsplayer take on Homecoming, I understood why people hated the game's combat. If you're not a fan of the action, or don't grasp it well, it's just a big turn off. And yeah, that final boss was underwhelming.

I still intend to replay both of these games and I was going to take some screenshots and video of Downpour for the site so when I get to that I will look for any distance signs.

Interestingly, Downpour seems to have a very large separate fanbase, something which Homecoming hasn't. I know this because I'm getting so much hate on my YouTube video where people harass me for giving Downpour a low rating.

Downpour is my favorite game but I couldn't imagine harassing somebody over their opinion on it. People suck.

Should have been around when SILENT HILL 2 was released. I was getting death threats on AIM from people who disagreed with my theories.

Ah the good ol' days.

Homecoming hits home for me because it's the only Silent Hill game that potentially deals with being an honorably discharged soldier and its psychological ramifications. Needless to say, I didn't appreciate the plot twist much, but it is still the closest Silent Hill game to tackle the subject.

I appreciated Downpour for trying to be grounded in reality since Silent Hill 2. Downpour story's resolution did feel a bit incomplete to me despite it having the most ending variations in the series. I guess being grounded in reality would mean there would be some loose ends.

I feel like SILENT HILL: HOMECOMING would have been better off if the twist wasn't even a twist. That Josh was ultimately sacrificed and nothing happened to Shepherd's Glen.

Ah a battle between the two mid Silent Hill games! Man it's hard to say which one is "better" or worse because they both don't even really feel like Silent Hill games.

Okay for one, even though both technically are on more powerful engines on better hardware, they just LACK environmental detail and expressive character models. Neither game maintains the look of Silent Hill from the previous games, they add way too much shit. Like how many goddamn prisons this small lake resort town got? Combat in both is bad for different reasons. Homecoming tries with it's monsters, but at its best it has some decent Resident Evil side game monsters. Downpour is just wack AF in this regard. Downpour tries to be more original though and tries to make Silent Hill more explorable and has a story that isn't a poor man's SH2. Again the town doesn't look right though, too many additions that don't make sense. Homecoming is probably a better pick up and play average horror game. It's almost offensive in its mediocrity. Also why is movie shit here? Movie Phead, movie otherside, movie cult. Environments are so dull in Homecoming, and again it doesn't look like past games. Downpour is a technical mess, looks ugly alot of times, but tries to stand on its own, but mostly fails. Also it adopting SM's chase sequence other sides is a negative. IDK, but anytime I hear people talk about SH2R changing a characters jawline being a big deal It seems like they must of missed the budget SH era.

It's the same prison in both Homecoming and Downpour. They may appear in different places, but they're both Overlook Penitentiary. I'm pretty sure the location in Downpour is the actual location while the Homecoming location is just a manifestation of the town.

Yeah a Super Max prison being in a small resort town is just kinda... Dumb. Downpour at least moves it. Though in reality it's still weird because what Resort town wants a super max near by scaring off tourists. IDK the expansions from those two games always felt very video gamey and unnatural.

The closest penitentiaries to me physically are both in small places. Springhill Nova Scotia and Dorchester New Brunswick.

Springhill has a population of under 3000. Dorchester only has 900 or so population.

Maybe Silent Hill had to diversify their investments.

Had to get that private prison money to stay afloat. I just think it's funny, it's not impossible. However when you think about Team Silent setting up Silent Hill 3 in another town for a more variety of buildings that they felt wouldn't make sense in Silent Hill (Big Mall, Office building, Subway) I really just feel like the developers post TS were adding shit to add it. Hell I like Origins and that game adds a bunch of shit that doesn't make sense. I do think that setting future Silent Hill games outside of Silent Hill is the correct course for varieties sake or other town named Silent Hill like it's rumoured Kojima was planning. Not always, but it shouldn't be off the table or they will just expand the map until it's like a mini New York.

Yes. We are the capital city and one of the largest harbours in the world. We are a port for cruise ships in the summer.

Springhill and Dorchester jails are several hours away from us though.

Is Overlook a functional prison in "reality" or is it an older, out-of-use prison that's part of the tourist attractions?

Overlook Penitentiary is abandoned. Its location in HOMECOMING is a manifestation, whereas in DOWNPOUR it’s actually on the island in Toluca Lake, as a nod to Alcatraz.

There isn’t any information on when it was built, opened, or closed, however.

Oh, no, not at all. The Church is between the Historical Society and Lakeview Hotel. Overlook Penitentiary is just north of Devil's Pitstop Diner, where Murphy finds himself after the prison bus crash. The two islands are miles apart.

The Church island is maybe 1/8th the size of Overlook Island.

I wanna row past the island in SH2R and see a big sign that says 'Welcome to Rebirth island, home of the number one occult ritual to bring back dead loved ones!*resurrection items and literature not included*
