Downpour for me. Better music in Homecoming, though.

Downpour far and away has the better story set up - but completely flubs it in favor of an overly gamified morality ending mechanic and a dull, artless world. I don't know how they were able to mess up using PRAGUE as a visual influence, a city that is ripe and ready for all sorts of incredible inspirartion - but Downpor's vision of Silent Hill is just so, so boring.

Homecoming feels more "faithful" (putting it VERY charitably) to the visual identity of the series but has probably the most downright stupid, contrived plot in the series.

So my vote goes for Shattered Memories. It has its faults to be sure, but it feels the closest in spirit to the Team Silent era to me.

You are being charitable towards Homecoming, but I think I know what you mean. If you squint, it almost looks vaguely like the town in the TS era , minus the detail. Downpour looks like a different place or time period. However, at least Downpour puts some lived in qualities in its environments. Homecoming gets bested by a PS1 game in that regard, which SH1 does an excellent job of considering the hardware. They both don't FEEL like Silent Hill games to me. The Climax games do, even with their flaws.

If there's one thing that Homecoming did right that almost all fans of the series can agree on, it's that the monster designs were spot on. They just look and feel like they belong in Silent Hill, period.

But yeah, everything else was a shit show.

I'll be honest. I know I'll sound like a hater, but I honestly believe Homecomings monsters are over hyped. I do like some, but most are just unimaginative copy's of other creatures. Movie nurses, Smoking Lying figures, Saim is a closer/mandarin in S&M gear. The others range from mid to actually pretty decent. Now compared to whatever the hell Downpour has, they might as well have been created by Ito himself.

I think Homecoming's monster designs really shine in the bosses. I agree that some of the standard enemies are pretty derivative of other monsters in the series.

Some of the bosses are pretty decent. I could nit pick them, but I've never complained about dropping 40 bullets into a giant moth and a penis worm so gotta be fair.
