Something pretty significant!

People have spotted letters in the mouth of Udo.

The letters in order spell out ATAMI

Atami is a Japanese city in Shizuoka Prefecture known for its onsen hot springs and literally means "hot ocean."

Shizuoka's kanji letters are also the same ones that spell "Silent Hill."

So, yep, as is obvious, Kojima is letting it be known that OD will be carrying forward some of his ideas intended for Silent Hills.

I always wondered if Kojima would eventually take his Silent Hills ideas and apply them elsewhere. I would not be surprised if this game is Silent Hills (not in a literal sense, but the completed version of that game's vision).

Recall that in PT - 7780 Studios was a reference to the postal code of Shizuoka.

He's taking many of his ideas there, certainly. But Silent Hills was set to be a traditional console release with at best some non-mandatory online connectivity and interaction as in Death Stranding.

OD seems to be specifically a Cloud project, initially intended for Google Stadia and now for Microsoft. Basically Kojima wants to do something not tied to console hardware and making full use of streaming from more powerful servers and interacted with using tablets and cell phones. It'll be interesting to see how that turns out.

The basic idea for OD/Overdose, being that you overdose on horror. And from the sound of this project having multiple collaborators, like Jordan Peele, who may be standing in for Del Toro, it could likely be episodic with different creators and actors collaborating on different stories within a universe. A franchise that can be ongoing and done on the side without interfering with more larger traditional console projects like DS2.

What I'm afraid of is that because of this rift, SH as a concept will be sort of..... split. Kojima is......................... look, if you love him you love him. But watching the recent State of Play where there's, um.... I guess sentient puppets? And neck gloves? There's a dude with an attack guitar? And Samurai babies? nope, out y'lost me, no thanks.

It's like Nomura and Kingdom Hearts- I *WANT* to love you, but because no one seemingly ever said no to them because they ARE an exceptional font of creativity, they also lack editing, so stories grow wild and untenable. And as with bonsai trees, the whole idea is to let the thing grow and flourish- but with editing to keep it in line, to be a thing of beauty within the concept.

It's funny because it's like Tarantino or Tool. You either love their style or your scratching your head wondering how this got greenlit. It's unapologetic pretention, well researched, over contextual pretention.I personally love it and think it may be the best trailer I've seen in the last 5 years lol.

Kojima understands genre. P.T. never had anything excessively out of place with it's experience. Even the concept teaser filled with various imagery was consistent. So I don't think there is anything to worry about in this regard. Whereas Metal Gear and Death Stranding offer greater range to include out-there ideas. Many, to serve gameplay purposes. Fighting ninjas and guitar railgun dudes make for more interesting boss fights. OD will focus more on scares and tension, so I don't think it will lean heavily upon mechanics, especially when streaming from the cloud.
