Konami Potentially Porting 'Silent Hill' Series

Post by The Adversary »

Apparently HexaDrive—the developer of THE SHORT MESSAGE—originally approached Konami to do SILENT HILL 2: REMAKE. They were denied. However, a few months later, Konami reached out to HexaDrive about potentially porting other games of the series.

Source.

Maybe we're looking at the Summer of Silent Hill, Pt. II.

Do they just mean ports of the original Team Silent games? The entire mainline series? I'd love to be able to play everything without having to pull out my old consoles. And getting the games to modern platforms would do wonders for the accessibility of the series.

We have no idea at this time, I'm afraid - Miyatani didn't specify which "ports".

Well Konami is doing the Metal Gear ports (badly), but I'm sure the plan is the same. All games from PS1 to PS3 and if they like money, then P.T. as a contextualized bonus. There were also nice extras like the PSP Silent Hill Experience.

I figure...

Silent Hill Collection Vol. 1
Silent Hill 1
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill Play Novel

Silent Hill Collection Vol. 2
Silent Hill 4
Silent Hill 0rigins
Silent Hill Experience
Silent Hill Shattered Memories

Silent Hill Collection Vol. 3
Silent Hill Homecoming
Silent Hill Downpour
Silent Hill Book of Memories
P.T.

While not my favorite I genuinely like it and I'd also be unironically excited for that.

Especially when it's this costly for second hand...

Lol, they are being kept behind locked glass as if they're some sort of expensive jewelry or vintage whiskey bottle.

The prices are insane, for real. I myself have been trying to get my hands on a PS1 copy of SH1 for some time but it's hard to come by anything below at least 150 USD. But 224 dollars for SH3? That's just extortion, for God's sake.

I have never felt more validated for buying the PS2 version of Shattered Memories back in the day than looking at that picture. lol
I have the SMT and .hack games in there too. Would never part with them but knowing they are that rare, it's a relief to have had them all this time.
I used to sell my games too, as a teen and young adult. I remember considering selling my .hack games at one point. Dodged a bullet there.

I've also got those .hack games. I didn't realize how expensive they'd gotten. It's not surprising though considering retro games are just stupid expensive these days.

I still have all the main SH games (SM on Wii though), Fatal Frames and .hack. I'm kicking myself for trading in Rule of Rose but I really didn't like the game and didn't see a reason to hang onto it at the time.

I prefer the Wii version of SM. Better graphics and the motion controls are one of the best use cases on the Wii. I'm surprised they never ported it for PS Move. It would also make a great VR port. Sony should be talking to Konami more.

Rule of Rose is definitely a game in dire need of a Remake. At least classic SH and RE are decently playable games even by today's standards. Anyone having trouble with combat can still get by on Easy. Rule of Rose was terrible even when released. A shame, as there is a very good story and art direction in there.

Going digital is probably the best case scenario for the older games, especially if the ports are clean and don't prevent things like SH2 Enhanced Edition from being able to touch them.

TMNT Collection and MGS Collection Vol. 1 both got physical releases from Konami. I could see them being released as a physical Collection, but not individually.

The fact that Konami has left these games stranded on the PS2 era hardware is baffling. Hell you can go to a certain site and download SH2 and SH3 like they are addon drivers. Silent Hill is STILL the second biggest survival horror franchise due to sheer quality and reverence of those first 4 games and the only way to play them is via 6th gen consoles (at prices above 200 for intact copies of SH1/2/3), legally vague abandonware on PC, or terrible 7th gen ports. Has to be top 5 most mismanaged successful IPs in history.

Absolutely agreed. Silent Hill could be just as big as Resident Evil if Konami had managed it even halfway competently.
