Townfall canceled? Annapurna's Entire Staff Resigns!

I know this is a No Code developed game and not entirely Annapurna, but I can't help but suspect this spells possible doom for Townfall.

I doubt this will mean a cancelation. Like you said, No Code were the primary developers. They can always get another support studio if necessary.

Konami and Annapurna were jointly publishing it.

Annapurna will likely delay, hire new people, and honor existing contracts. Otherwise Konami will step in and take over the projectly completely, allowing NoCode to complete it.

Townfall ought to be fine, but any potential future plans with Annapurna for further Silent Hill anthology projects will likely not go ahead until Annapurna is sorted out, but if the main leads who spearheaded the deal are gone, I doubt we'll see anything following Townfall.

For those not in the know, from Eurogamer:

"Also still on Annapurna Interactive's upcoming roster of games is No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall. However, the developer is yet to make a comment on last night's news."

So, no, TOWNFALL will not be (directly) affected by the resignations. The game is 2+ years along at this point, even though we haven't heard a peep about it since Transmission I in October 2022 (which is highly disappointing).

Well, understandably, Konami should rightly be focused on promoting SH2 Remake from now until the end of the year. And possibly into early 2025, as I think the movie will also be out by March.

Townhall is most likely scheduled for October 2025. We should also see more of F by then too, as that's the next big entry, though that one could be a 2026 game.

The Annapurna issues seems to be an internal managerial one as it seems that the owner was looking to merge the gaming division with the film division into one entity. But the gaming side wanted their independence. Likely if only because redundant positions tend to see layoffs after the merge, and also because if the film guys end up on top, they might make bad decisions regarding games.

Konami being Konami, I highly doubt we'll be getting any news whatsoever regarding Townfall or f until after the release of Silent Hill 2 remake.

Still no word from No Code or Konami at all.

If I had to put money on it, I'd wager that this project is dead.

That's what we all thought about Silent Hill not long ago.

Sony State of Play announced for tomorrow with updates on 20 previously announced games. Think there's any chance they'll break the obvious silence on Townfall's status? Or are all SH updates relegated to future Transmissions?

We won't hear anything about Townfall until after SH2R is released. If it is canceled, we especially won't be hearing about a cancelation right before a new game release.

Yeah, we are not hearing anything until Anapurna reorganizes, which will take time.

The SOP will just stick to SH2 if anything, and I doubt there will be much, probably just a quick feature of Pro enhancements.

---

Update: From what people are saying. It seems that Anapurna's film division wasn't doing so great, hence the merger, and that there also seems to be a push to take Anapurna in a more AAA direction, whilst spinning off the indy segment, but that didn't happen.

As of now, Anapurna is rehiring, and all contractual obligations with other studios and publishers will be honored, so Townfall will continue development. Whether the final product will be as good as what the original staff intended is another story. The only game likely to be cancelled is a Blade Runner game that was an internal Anapurna project under a small developer they purchased.

-----

UPDATE:

Townfall will continue development - Officially confirmed.

We do, it's true. Though, we've also been conditioned to by a decade of bad news stories about studios, employees, and games getting canned. Both within Silent Hill and without.

True but it's a different era now. No Code is separate from Annapurna. It's been in development for years at this point and it's probably high quality considering the studio.

It is. But also it isn't. Cancelled games, staff layoffs, studio closures. They are worse now than ever in the overall video game industry. It's a rough time out there. Townfall was probably always going to be fine because Annapurna was a co-publisher and not the main development studio or even sole publisher, but I also understand why some were concerned.
