Box Art
I personally don't like the cover with the floating head. It's just reeaallly awkwardly placed there... So much so that I'm surprised they're actually running with this...
If it were up to me, I'd just do something where you only see the cutout of Mary's eyes, but gazing down at James.
Quick mock-up:
But there is someone from the UK who got a boxed copy early.
Turns out, there is a reversible cover that is callback to the PS2's original.

I C wat u did there...

Re: Box Art
I think it looks okay. Could've been worse. The series is full of hit and miss when it comes to box arts anyways. I mean, remember the NA cover for Silent Hill 3? Dull as hell.
Which makes me miss the earlier days when different regions got different box arts. Then you could pick and choose which one you wanted to "associate" with the game in terms of atmosphere.

Re: Box Art
In an era of digital purchases does box art even really matter that much anymore?

Re: Box Art
Well, depends... as that same art tends to be used for the game on the digital storefronts and your own Library page, etc.

Re: Box Art
For us physical collectors, yes.
But even a decent amount of thought and care put into your digital civer, and launcher icon and menus etc. all show you how much the team and artists care.
Granted, marketing firm demands to appeal to the lowest common denominator and avoiding controversy and regulations do limit creativity on that front.
Re: Box Art
Yah, times have changed since my youth in the 80's when I would visit the VHS rental stores, and spend hours in the horror section. I would would go through their entire collection just looking at the covers for each movie. Yes there were a lot of terrible horror movies back then, but their cover art was usually really cool.
This was before the days of Blockbuster... so yah, me a kid could go in and rent any horror movie I wanted. It was glorious

Famitsu Magazine has a neat Pyramid Head cover.

Re: Box Art
I think it looks bad.
Reversible covers can be nice but it bothers me if they don't contain all the normal box art information and are thus "not really the cover".
Also what is up with the text from the back of the box. That's real and final?

You will pull my boxes and disks out of my cold dead hands.
Re: Box Art
There is literally a hole there, it's not gone at all
It's awesome, though. I preordered the deluxe edition, and I'm seriously considering getting the PS5 version on disc as well, because I want this on my shelf.
I love having the actual physical copy, so I still think box arts hold some value. But I get it that digital copies are way more convenient (like I said on my comment above, I preordered the digital deluxe edition, but I'm also considering getting the disc).
Btw, starting next year, at least in California companies will have to admit that in most cases there is no such thing as "purchasing" a digital media, they will have to clearly advise that you're not "buying" the game/movie/ebook/whatever, but merely a license: https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/ ... not-bought

Re: Box Art
Lol same. For me it's physical media only or no sale! I don't care if the "all digital age" is coming or not. I will only buy physical media. If that stops.. Oh well, I'll just play my thousands of old games.
On the subject
The box art is alright. definitely not the worst. That honor belongs to Silent hill 4 The room (America version). /shudders

Re: Box Art
This is such a scam. I'm sure it probably started elsewhere, but I blame Adobe for this "subscription-based product." I have to pay $35+/month just to use Photoshop, Illustrator, and Audition. Forever. I can't just buy the Suite. For everything, it's almost $700 (USD) per year. Absolute horseshit.CaLviN_BR wrote: ↑30 Sep 2024 Btw, starting next year, at least in California companies will have to admit that in most cases there is no such thing as "purchasing" a digital media, they will have to clearly advise that you're not "buying" the game/movie/ebook/whatever, but merely a license: https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/ ... not-bought
Oh, and now it auto-prompts to save my work onto its own cloud storage — meaning if I ever lapse on a payment, Adobe then has sole possession of whatever was on there.

Re: Box Art
That reversible cover is nice, but the design on the back of the box for that version looks so... idk, stark? How odd. Not my favorite box art in general as a whole, but hopefully the game itself ends up holding up.

Re: Box Art
For the US Copy, the disk is different. It's mostly black with a shot of James' face looking out out of the closet where he sees Pyramid Head.
There's no reverse cover but the other side does have a bit of the map behind the info printed on it.
Back of the box is much better, though.
