Bliss ending - theories about it? SPOILERS ALERT
Hey guys
Just saw the new “bliss ending”
SPOILER ALERT.
Depending on the perspective, it could be a “good” ending, if you consider that James got back into Mary without any disease, or a “bad” ending, if you think that James got caught by the city and went to a multiverse where Mary lives, but is just his mind.
What you guys think about it?

If Maria is born from Mary’s wish, then Bliss might be born from James’s wish.

It's like a Super-Maria ending in that James doesn't even bother learning the truth before abandoning it.

The name "Bliss" and the fact that the ending's trigger is James downing a bottle of White Claudia seem to plainly signify that he's just getting fucked up and imagining himself with the Mary on the tape, but I would love to have it actually be him entering the tape.
Now I want you to think, and stop being a smart-aleck.

I’m just irked they called it White Claudia when that’s just the plant the drug is made from and not the drug itself. lol

Sir, "White Claudia" IS the name of the plant when it's in liquid form. PTV is a processed form that, according to Silent Hill 4, may be a black powder as opposed to a white liquid.
Now granted, maybe they should have called it White Chrism, but the Chrism is explicitly an oil so you wouldn't drink it, in its intended use?
I'll also be frank the name of the drug being PTV was always a dumb band reference anyway.

Where is this coming from?
Nothing indicates the black powder found in jars in the panopticon is PTV. SILENT HILL and ORIGINS both make it pretty clear PTV, the drug itself, is a white powder similar to cocaine, as seen in the Indian Runner safe and the Rose Suite, respectively.
Anyway. White Claudia is the name of the plant and PTV is the drug processed from White Claudia. Or, say: The drug cocaine (PTV) is produced from the coca plant (White Claudia).

I could've sworn there were crates in the Water Prison that a black powdered drug in it, but it's been like. So long. You're probably right though. Either way, the idea of a pilled drug being titled "Claudia" on the bottle is atleast as old as Shattered Memories. The Adversary wrote: ↑05 Nov 2024 >PTV is a processed form that, according to Silent Hill 4, may be a black powder as opposed to a white liquid.<

All good! I probably wouldn't have questioned it so harshly if I hadn't played THE ROOM a couple months ago. Henry comes across jars of a black powder — that he comments on — in a handful of cells.AuraTwilight wrote: ↑06 Nov 2024I could've sworn there were crates in the Water Prison that a black powdered drug in it, but it's been like. PTV itself is only seen in powder form, though — in both ORIGINS and SILENT HILL — in which case we can presume, like cocaine, it's snorted.

Bad ending, if Lisa Garland and her addiction to PTV indicates anything.
James will come down hard.

Re: Bliss ending - theories about it? SPOILERS ALERT
This was my third ending, second one for my second playthrough. A few things I happened to notice while getting the stuff for said ending
1. At the time I didn't know that the key to the box containing the bottle of White Claudia was at the bowling alley. The fact that it's out of the way of Jack's Inn, and how Maria often reminds you of that fact, it's almost like James is intentionally doing what he can to ignore the town
2. The note next to the dead body where you find the code for the safe. "I can only leave by not leaving. That's what he said, I can leave by not leaving". Given what happens in this ending, yeah
So before even watching the tape, if James downs the bottle of White Claudia it seems like he's having a hallucination where Mary is not only alive, but perfectly healthy.
When I watched the ending for the first time on youtube I didn't know that James had to drink a bottle of WC. When it cut to the empty chair I thought it was a bizarre situation where the events of the game never even took place. Knowing what I know now, I have some thoughts on this in particular
By James drinking the bottle it's almost like he knows that the tape is going to show him something he doesn't want to see, and so consumed the contents. Except would he even know much about WC? Maybe he has heard that it has a 'blissful' effect, and takes it to take the edge off
I don't believe he was sucked into the TV set. Given that he's likely still in the abyss...maybe, I think it's more likely that he was pulled into a deeper layer. He's still the Otherworld, but is in a much (probably to him) happier version of it.
In my opinion, I find this ending bitter sweet. On the one hand, it ties into the loop theory. I think James knows exactly what he did, and doesn't want to learn the truth again, so instead he decides to "leave" the only way he knows how
On the other hand, if we disregard the loop theory, then it's James stating that he doesn't want to learn the truth. It's sad because he goes through all that he does just to go "Yeah, I'm going to get stoned before watching this tape" and then learns nothing
